Please reach us at info@happyhoundsco.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Our boarding is home style boarding. This means that your dog would stay in my house, and they will be treated like they would be at their own home (with some extra spoiling sprinkled in!) They have access to couches, beds, toys, and plenty of outdoor space. Crates are provided if needed, so that you don’t have to bring your own (unless you’d like to).
The unique part of Happy Hounds boarding means that during the day, boarding dogs can join the pack on our off-leash hikes. If hiking isn’t something your dog would enjoy, they will be provided with leashed walks from other staff members during the day while the hikers are out. This is all included in the boarding package fee.
Happy Hounds has capacity for a maximum of four dogs for boarding on any given day. I also have a dog of my own, Mikita. Part of what makes the boarding experience unique is the at-home, free range style. This also means that your dog must be comfortable with other dogs being around them at all times.
We are happy to provide referrals for our friends at Sticks N Bones who provide a more traditional style boarding experience if your dog needs their own personal space.
Your dog will always be in the company of the other boarding dogs or Mikita (my dog) and they must be able to be left alone without a human for a maximum of two hours. This ensures that if ever there was an emergency and I needed to leave my house, I would know the dogs (and my house) would stay safe without constant supervision.
Your dog must be comfortable with sharing their personal space with other dogs. All dogs are given meals separately if requested, so if your dog has issues with other dogs being around their food at mealtimes, that can be accommodated. Because of the nature of Happy Hounds boarding, dogs with separation anxiety of any kind may not be able to be accommodated.
This is not an ‘official’ service we offer, however we are open to considering this under very special circumstances. This requires arrangements to be made so last minute requests for this will not be accommodated. Please reach out to us at info@happyhoundsco.ca if this is something you are looking for.
Boarding dogs tag along with us during hikes or walks, and because of this we will need to pre-arrange a specific pick up time to ensure both me and your dog are home! Typically we will be unavailable for pick up between the hours of 9:30am – 5pm. This means the preferred pick up times are outside of those hours, but requests within those hours may be able to be accommodated with notice. Latest pick-up time is 8pm.
Absolutely, yes. Their food will be kept in my home refrigerator/freezer.
By Ontario law, your dog must have their rabies vaccination. We also require the Bordetella vaccine for any of our boarding clients.
Currently, no. There are a few outdoor neighbourhood children and cats, so please let me know if your dog is specifically child or cat aggressive.
To avoid disappointment, the earlier the better! We book up quite quickly because of our small capacity, so if you are thinking of booking or have any questions, please don’t wait to inquire. Reach out here: info@happyhoundsco.ca
Please note that your dog(s) must pass a trial overnight stay before booking is confirmed (This is for new clients only).
You, and/or your emergency contact will be notified and with your permission will be taken to the nearest vet.
During the day, we are quite busy and may not be able to answer any social phone calls,(emergencies will be attended to of course) but please leave us a message and we will get back to you. We are also incredibly active on our social media platforms and post daily updates of all the dogs with pictures and videos.
We can accommodate stays from 1 day all the way up to 30 days. We unfortunately cannot accommodate any longer stays beyond one month.
